Crosspoles

This is a photograph of a horse rounding the turn setting up for jumping a set of crosspoles.  I like this one because of the basically monochrome browns of the horses hooves and the sand contrasting against the freshly painted bright white and blue poles.

Catamaran – Puerto Vallarta

When my wife and I went to Puerto Vallarta for our 15th wedding anniversary we got a great deal.  The only catch was our return flight left at 2:00 am so we had a lot of time to kill between checking out of the hotel and catching our flight.  It gave us time to watch a last sunset and I caught this shot during the sunset.

(purchase)

I like this one in both the muted beige tones and in black and white.

Irrigation

I drove by this turf farm for weeks thinking “one of these days I need to stop and get a shot of the sun setting behind the sprinklers.”  I finally stopped on this one particular evening and I am very happy with the result.

John Deere – Shadow of the Steering Wheel

It was a little precarious standing on the fender of this antique John Deere tractor at the Log Barn near Enderby but there’s just something I like about shadows and vivid colors so I took the chance.  What a risk taker you’re probably thinking.

Fencepost – Kalamalka Lake

My family and I went for a bit of a drive last weekend up the valley to see the beautiful fall colors.  It was a good thing we did because the next day the temperature dropped to -10 C and now all the leaves are brown.  This photo is for my wife.  She just loves pictures with rows of various colors kind of like this one.

Little Door

This is a great shot of a young girl standing in front of a door that is “just her size”.  I love the vacant stare that she has and the way that she is almost standing at attention.

This was taken at Fort Rodd Hill near Victoria, BC.

Fisherman in the Off Season

Not much to say here.  I think the picture says a lot.

It was taken in a small fishing village on the island of Lipari off the northern coast of Sicily.

Old Faithful

Although Old Faithful is pretty reliable the lighting is not always what you are hoping for.  I sat with my daughter and waited for Old Faithful to erupt with the sky completely clouded over threatening to rain and totally flat light.  I decided to put on a neutral density filter to allow for a longer exposure time to see if the water would look cooler “in motion”.  Then to my surprise a beam of light shone through the clouds onto the geyser and lighted it just at the right time.

F-18 Near Supersonic with Vapor Forming on Wings

I’ve lived fairly close to Abottsford, BC for about 10 years and I have never attended the annual airshow.  I finally made it this past summer with my son and got a couple of great airplane shots.  This is one of my favorites from that day.   Although it was cloudy for the whole day and we even got a bit of rain it made it possible to get a shot like this without losing the details in the shadows.
